Engineering Pre-Study: Reduce Custom Design Risk at Minimal Cost
Advanced Conversion offers highly customized design options that allow our customers to get the best value from our capacitor solutions, which often include a fully integrated bus structure.
Prior to committing to a full prototype design, many customers prefer to fund a small engineering study to evaluate what capacitance can fit into their available space and consider topology options and life considerations.
We can apply our empirically validated capacitor modelling tools to provide a preliminary look at the expected capacitor hotspot temperature rise and the corresponding life expectancy. Ideally, the customer can define a full “mission profile” so we can account for the thermal time constants of the capacitor assembly.
A typical pre-study costs statement of work is provided below:
- Define and clarify the specification with the customer
- Look at capacitor winding options to implement the capacitance requirement
- Run lumped models to calculate hotspot temperature rise
- Correlate temperature and voltage with Advanced Conversion Life data
- Provide an initial topology concept for optimizing capacitor interface with the customer system
- The final deliverable is formal presentation and a budgetary quote for the next step in prototype development.
